How to style your hair with a hair comb

By Azlene Owens March 16, 2010

Hair comb is one of the oldest hair accessories in history. It started out during the Victorian era in the 19th century or earlier. There were many different kinds of hair combs. There were huge ones that were worn like tiara, small, simple and heavily-designed ones.

Actresses adorn this accessory in historical films today. One of the them was the award-winning film, Titanic, where Rose Dawson, acted by Kate Winslet, wore a butterfly hair comb.

You can find the replica at the Titanic merchandise store.

I was so amazed by how creative women were back then. Look at the different hair styles they had (below) with only hair combs. Without elastic hair bands, they could still tie up their hair. Genius.

I’m so glad our accessory stores still sell hair combs and I’m glad it hasn’t extinct.

If you’re thinking of trying this timeless style, buy a hair comb or two at your nearest accessory store and follow the video tutorial below on how to give your hair a French twist updo with a hair comb by Byrd Designs.
