Return of the Snow White Queen
Before Twilight, there was Evanescence. I was unofficially introduced to Gothic fashion by Amy Lee. I loved her style. She was like my style idol. All the corsets, striped socks, big skirt, long jet black hair, translucent green eyes and of course her snow white complexion, I’m sure she’s being looked up to by people who are into Goth. Speak for myself.
As I’m a music-inspired type of person, Amy Lee was the original person who inspired me to Gothic style. Evanescence is one of my favorite bands. I grew up listening to their music ever since their first album “Fallen” in 2003. Even though the band had been around for awhile, they only had 2 studio albums released. The last but not the least one was called “The Open Door”, released in 2006.
For about 2 years of no live performances since “The Open Door” tour in 2007, the band held a “secret” gig in New York City in May 2009.
The response was crazy. The tickets got sold out in 5 minutes! The band was overwhelmed by the response. It was meant to be a “warm-up” show before they made their headline appearance, or should I say a “comeback”, in Brazil in November 2009.
In the latest interview in Brazil, Amy said that for the first 8 months after they had stopped touring, they hadn’t been writing any songs. Later they began asking themselves as musicians. That’s when they decided to pick up where they had left off for their long-awaited fans. Watch the interview below.

Noticed her hair is shorter now? I think she looks fabulous but I really miss her long hair. It was her signature look. I’m glad she didn’t take off her jet black hair dye. I wonder how she would look like in her original hair color. I believe it was dirty blonde. It doesn’t matter. She is still my idol.
Anyway, Amy had tied a knot with long-time friend cum therapist, Josh Hartzler, in 2007. He was the inspiration for two of her songs “Good Enough” and “Bring Me To Life”. Amy mentioned him in “The Open Door” booklet and it was romantic of what she said: “Josh, you are my muse. Nothing inspires me the way you do. Thank you for all my missing pieces. Thank you for your strength and love. Thank you for letting me see myself through your eyes, because only then could I know that I am good enough for you.” Read more here.
After the much needed break, the band is now back in the game. Currently they are working at the studio to produce their highly anticipated third album. It’s due to release in Fall this year – between August and September 2010. Honestly, I can’t wait for it. I’m a big fan and I’ve been waiting for a new album from Evanescence as much as the rest of the rabid fans. It was inspiring to know that the band is going strong after all the drama they’d been through.
Closing off, I want to share with you my all-time favorite Evanescence song, Going Under. The music video is really cool. I love it. Enjoy!
